The 20V MAX XR (R) Angle Grinder features a brake, E-Clutch (R) System, and Kickback Brake. The brake quickly brings the wheel to a stop in two seconds or less when the trigger is released. The E-Clutch (R) System automatically shuts down the motor when a wheel pinch in detected. These two features working together to shut the tool down without user interaction, called the Kickback Brake. Additionally, the grinder features a One-Touch (TM) Guard, which allows for single-action adjustments to change guard position.

I was a holdout for converting power hungry tools to battery power. This was probably because of poor experiences with a 12v Circ saw. Recently I added the 4-1/2” grinder to my arsenal of 20v tools, and it didn’t disappoint one bit. I use this mostly for cutting and grinding metal for fabrication and some automotive work. Bottom line is the battery never quit. I used this for a number of jobs throughout the day and the 6ah battery showed full charge. Near the end of the day I loaded it up for the torture test in the chop saw rig. It cut 3ft of 3/4” steel rod into pieces and never quit. Battery was still at 1/2 charge. Capacity is not an issue for this combination. The down side is that the tool is long. It is well balanced and handles well, the tool-less arbor nut is awesome. Also the guard has a tool-less mechanisms to move on the fly. For tight jobs i will still pull out ole reliable, otherwise this thing is my new friend.

This grinder is great I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cordless grinder. It is a battery eater though but its not surprising or a problem with hard hard this thing works. Its a beast. Pros: brushless, the switch safety is easy to use, it does not bog down easily it will grind and cut like crazy, the brake works nicely, it has a nice hand feel and ergonomics, and it uses an allen wrench for the hold down nut instead of those pin wrenches. Cons: The screw in handle is horrible its just plastic and cheap feeling, the case near the exhaust gets hot, the intake filters clog pretty quickly and you have to remove a screw to get them off, and there needs to be a holder for the allen wrench that removes the hold down nut.
