RIDGID: Build for a Lifetime
Renea Dodson –
This ridgid hammer drill is built with the same quality that we have come to expect for Ridgid cordless tools. The drill feels substantial in your hand, the torque settings are crisp and you can easily switch form Hammer mode to normal drill easily. the bare tools comes with a belt hook that can be installed on either side if the handle as well as a bit holder, that installs opposite the belt hook. First thing, this drill weighs a bit more that the previous version, and I have included phots of both on the scale for comparison. I was bale to use this right away for a remodel I am doing in my kitchen. the drill performed well with no issues. Here are a few observations I have. this is my second brushless drill, the other is the ridged sub-compact. Both of them have a slight lag when you press the trigger, you will get used to this quickly, but I noticed it right away. The second, I used this to drive screws, the lowest speed is faster than the last model. I unfortunately cannot tell you by how much as I have no way of testing the rpm’s but it is noticeable, and was a bit of a problem starting a screw in hard wood. The clutch worked well and I was able to set the correct setting quickly to avoid striping the screw heads and driving to the right depth. I was able to test the hammer drill fixation on piece of concrete and a 1/2″ drill, it honestly plowed through it easily, not too shabby for a cordless. I will not provide run times or number of screws I drove on a charge, as this is a bare tool and it depends on your batter and amps. I used the octane versions, which Ridgid has for some reason discontinued, but they work great. Overall this tool performed well and is well made. my only negative was the low speed being a bit faster than other versions. since this will run on any 18v ridgid battery, it is a great upgrade for those looking for a new version that will last for years under tough use.
