The 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Grass Shear with Hedge Trimmer Blade, Tool Only (XMU04ZX), is a compact and cordless solution for grass trimming and cutting. Easily change from grass shear to hedge trimmer for minor hedge trimming. The XMU04ZX has dual blade action and a wide 6-5/16 in. cutting width and delivers faster blade speed (2,500 strokes per minute/SPM) than the previous model. When using a fast-charging 18V LXT 5.0Ah battery (sold separately), users will get up to 200-minutes of run time on a single charge. It has 3-stage adjustment so the cutting height can be matched to the application. Additional features include a rubberized soft grip handle, tool-less blade changing, non-electrolyzed nickel-plated blades to resist staining and rusting, and a compact size at only 4.1 lbs. Makita has really upped the game with this grass shear/hedge trimmer and makes the task easy and professional looking. Never thought I would get excited about garden tools but this unit works really well,made to last and has a long lasting and powerful supply of energy. The blades are made of a non-electrolyzed nickel to resist staining and rust.It has a nice ergonomic design for the hand so you can control the cuts from almost any angle and is not overly heavy that can cause fatigue. The shear attachment has a 6inch wide swath for a wider cut and has a little tray below to catch clippings for easy disposal. You can also adjust the height of the grass you want to cut buy pulling back slightly and move into the desired height(either 9/16,13/16 or 1 inch )The hedge trimmer is a generous 9inch blade for easy trimming of your intended plant. To change between blades just push forward the black tray,push the lock cover button and twist off the cover and insert your desired blade(the hedge trimmer needs to be screwed on for extra support). The instructions are clearly shown on the tool itself if you forget the process. The top has a low battery indicator that blinks when it’s low and lights up solid red when it overheats or there is no power left. It has the standard safety trigger that you push to activate the cutting and has a front plastic guard for deflection of debris. It uses the Makita 18volt battery(sold separately)but if you have one or two from other Makita tools it should work. Overall a GREAT yard tool for the arsenal,made by Makita for durability and performance. Would make a super and unexpected gift for any homeowner.
