It’s called a Drain Spade because the design is ideal for digging narrow trenches to lay wire, pipes, or a French drain-but it can do so much more than that. The Drain Spade will become your tool of choice for many digging chores such as deep holes for planting, clearing out ditches, finding leaks, dividing transplants, and is even flat enough for edging. As with our other shovels and spades, the Drain Spade is built to last your lifetime, with a steel blade strong enough to slide through tough soil, the step is solid and wide to prevent foot slippage, the back is closed to avoid soil buildup, and the reinforced head-to-handle connection prevents separation. This shovel comes in a variety of handles, including one made from high-quality fiberglass that’s coated in a polyester veil to prevent splintering and increase strength, or the choice of true American hardwood. It also features a variety of grips including a D-shaped polypropylene grip with a no-slip texture, designed to increase leverage and reduce hand fatigue while wide enough to accommodate work gloves, or a rubber grip to provide maximum comfort and to decrease hand fatigue despite all that digging.
